The Nurse Delegation Program (NDP) is designed to assure that all facilities operated under contract by the Alabama Department of Mental Health are compliant with the Alabama Board of Nursing regulations on the administration of medications, and to assure that all residents who reside within facilities contracted by DMH receive appropriate medical care. The Medication Assistance Certification Program for the Alabama Department of Mental Health applies to all facilities that are certified by the department to provide assistance to individuals with serious mental illnesses, intellectual disabilities or substance abuse. This program contains the following components: 1) administrative guidance on program structure, 2) educational programming for both the medication assistant supervising nurses (MAS nurse) and medication assistant certified staff (MAC staff), 3) quality assurance monitoring at the facility level, and 4) quality assurance review by the Alabama Department of Mental Health, as well as the Alabama Board of Nursing.
