About the Capitol Showcase
The Capitol Showcase is an annual art exhibition that highlights the creativity, resilience, and lived experiences of individuals receiving mental health services throughout Alabama.
For more than two decades, this program has provided artists with a public platform to share their work in one of the state’s most visible civic spaces. Through painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, and mixed media, participants express their stories, perspectives, and personal journeys.
The Showcase promotes understanding, reduces stigma, and affirms that recovery includes creativity, connection, and community.
More than 20 Years of Art and Advocacy
Since its founding in 2005, the Capitol Showcase has grown into one of Alabama’s longest-running exhibitions focused on mental health awareness.
Over the years, the program has:
- Featured hundreds of artists statewide
- Represented all regions of Alabama
- Engaged thousands of visitors
- Strengthened partnerships between providers, communities, and policymakers
Each year, the exhibition continues the department’s commitment to promoting recovery, self-determination, and opportunity.
