I have faced many obstacles in my life related to my mental illness. Since I was diagnosed with schizophrenia, I have struggled with symptoms related to my illness and hospitalizations. I have also struggled because I do not feel like people listen to those who have a mental illness. I have overcome many challenges in my life. One challenge I have overcome is overeating and now I have a healthier lifestyle. I also have become more independent and continue to work to be completely independent. I am a self-taught artist, I taught myself how to draw, color, and paint. I enjoy art because it is fun. I also enjoy using art and creativity as a coping skill. I especially enjoy painting as it has become a way for me to express myself.
