I am a young adult with an intellectual disability and a student at Vivian B. Adams School (VBAS). I tend to be quiet. I enjoy learning and developing new skills at my own pace. Being at VBAS has helped me build independence and confidence in ways that are meaningful to me.
Art is something I truly enjoy. It gives me a way to express myself, even when I don’t say much. I like working with color and creating things that show how I feel. As part of the HeArt (Helping Encourage Artistic Expression to Reinforce and Transform) Program, I get to explore different materials and techniques. Our instructor, Mr. Bill Meyer, encourages us to be creative and try new things, which helps me grow.
I also enjoy music and singing. While I may be reserved, I like being included in group activities and performances with my classmates. These moments help me feel connected and proud of what I can do.
