My name is Andre, and I live with schizophrenia. I take medication for the rest of my life, but every day I work to manage my illness by staying on my medication and practicing coping skills with positive affirmations. The support I receive from Center of Hope, the staff, group therapy, and one-on-one therapy has been essential in helping me maintain my well-being.
I’ve been passionate about art since grammar school and continued through high school and summer school. Art became a way for me to express myself, and I would proudly wear my artwork on T-shirts. Art is my safe space—it gives me choices and a way to showcase my abilities and history. Through my art and poetry, I also demonstrate my education and personal growth. I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my art at the Capital Showcase.
