What is Peer Support?
Peer Support is emotional and practical support from people who have lived experience with mental illness or substance use recovery.
They are trained to help others by offering:
- Hope through shared experience
- Support for recovery goals
- Skills and strategies for wellness
- Connection without judgment
Certified Peer Support Specialists work in many settings, including clinics, crisis centers, and drop-in programs.
What is a Drop-In Center?
Drop-in centers—sometimes called peer-run wellness centers or clubhouses—are welcoming community spaces where people with mental health or substance use challenges can:
- Build community
- Practice life skills
- Attend support groups
- Take part in creative or vocational activities
These centers are free and voluntary, offering a sense of purpose and connection outside of clinical care.
Who Can Use These Services?
Anyone who is:
- Living with a mental illness or substance use disorder
- In recovery and looking for community
- Seeking help that feels supportive, not clinical
