Losing my dad was one of the hardest things I’ve ever faced. But through recovery, support from the staff, and coming to ADS, I’ve learned how to use coping skills when I feel angry or overwhelmed. Art is one of the things that brings me back to a happy place. It makes me feel calm, accomplished, and proud of myself. Living with bipolar disorder, art also helps me set boundaries and express myself safely.
I’ve loved art since I was a child—my mom and grandparents taught me. I especially enjoy working with watercolors. I’ve been part of the art workshop at ADS for a long time now.
One of the highlights of my art journey was when Lieutenant Governor Lucy Baxley bought my first painting. I visited the State House as an advocate for Integrea, and I saw my painting hanging in her office. That moment made me feel so seen and proud. I hope people feel that same joy when they see my work in the showcase.
