My name is Tyrome “Tosh or Ty” Tover, and I am a contemporary expressionist painter based in Mobile, Alabama. Since the early 1990s, I’ve been deeply involved in the HIV community as an advocate and leader. I have worked with the Mobile County Health Department for nearly a decade, and my art has been used as a therapeutic approach to emotional wellness and HIV intervention. I’ve had the honor of leading therapeutic art sessions, which have debuted on social media and YouTube channels.
My artwork has been featured in several exhibitions, including the World Health Organization’s Futures Art Exhibition, where my painting “Alone” was selected as a distinguished winner. My work has also been showcased in Mobile, Alabama, including the Mobile Arts Council’s “A Celebration of Black Artists” and on the Virtual Art Gallery.
I am passionate about using art to empower others and convey my life experiences through colorful and emotive works. My distinctive style incorporates vibrant acrylics over black canvas, and I continue to explore how art can symbolize personal growth and healing.
