My name is Shawn, and I live with bipolar disorder. This illness has made it difficult for me to focus, and for a long time, life felt unclear. But through recovery, I’ve overcome many sad days and learned to find a brighter outlook. I started my recovery when I joined a support group with NAMI. Now, I live in New House and am working towards becoming more independent.
Art has been a key part of my journey. I taught myself to draw and participated in the art workshop at ADS, where I’ve been challenged to improve. The workshop helped me think more clearly and gave me a creative outlet to express myself. With the support of my peers, doctors, and staff at ADS, I’ve learned to manage my life better.
Art helps me relax, refresh my thinking, and boost my confidence. I enjoy making choices in my artwork, from sketching to coloring, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to showcase my abilities.
