I started hearing voices and seeing things when I was 10 years old. Since then, I have been in and out of hospitals and on and off many, many meds. Despite that psychosis, I have been given the blessing of a strong support system. My friends and family are the reasons I keep going.

As a teenager, I looked around and found myself surrounded by aunts, cousins, and grandparents, all of whom were crafters. Tired of feeling isolated from these family members, I decided to learn a craft. That way I could have a point of relationship with generations of Alabama women. I bought my first yarn, and the stars in my life aligned. I haven’t put the yarn down since.

My art and my connection to family, in addition to therapy and medication, are therapeutic to me. Creating art soothes my mind and helps me cope. My afghans are paintings you can wrap yourself in.
