Hi, my name is Harmony. I live with Borderline Personality Disorder, PTSD, Major Depressive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and ADHD. My childhood wasn’t easy—we moved a lot. When I was seven, my mom married a man who was an alcoholic. When I turned eight, he began sexually abusing me and my sister, and it continued until I was twelve.

When I told my mom, she didn’t believe me. After that, I started severely self-harming and attempting to take my own life. By thirteen, I was in and out of psych wards and put on several medications.

At fourteen, I made a decision—I didn’t want to live in hospitals anymore. I started working to improve my mental health. That’s when I discovered drawing. It started as a coping skill, but I quickly fell in love with it. I’ve been refining my skills ever since.

Now, I attend the University of Montevallo and draw as much as I can about the things I’ve been through. Broken Promises is a piece about the aftermath of not being protected as a child.

Through my art, I hope to inspire others. Standing next to a piece that reflects what I’ve overcome—and knowing I created it—means everything to me.
