Direct Support Professionals Recognition Week
Honoring Dedicated Caregivers, Advocates, and Frontline Staff
Montgomery, Ala. — The Alabama Department of Mental Health (ADMH) is proud to join our community providers across the state in celebrating Direct Support Professional (DSP) Recognition Week. Held annually, DSP Recognition Week is a dedicated time to highlight and honor Direct Support Professionals who provide essential support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Without the dedicated presence of a DSP, many vital programs and daily support services simply could not operate. Every day, DSPs work directly with individuals with a disability in navigating daily life, achieving personal independence, participating in their communities, and reaching their fullest potential.
Beyond the essential personal care and practical support they provide, DSPs bring an extraordinary level of compassion, empathy, and heart to their work. It is a career rooted in connection and advocacy.
“Without the daily commitment, patience, and knowledge of direct support professionals, our mission to support individuals with disabilities would be impossible. They do far more than provide care. They help to enrich lives of individuals across our state, every single day,” said ADMH Commissioner Kimberly Boswell.
