National Red Ribbon Week
Make a Difference. Be a Hero. Stay Drug Free
Montgomery, Ala. — The Alabama Department of Mental Health (ADMH) is observing National Red Ribbon Week from October 23–31, 2026. This year’s theme, “Make a Difference. Be a Hero. Stay Drug Free,” highlights the importance of personal commitment, community collaboration, and proactive education.
Substance misuse affects individuals and families across Alabama. To educate and engage Alabama communities, Red Ribbon Week events raise drug prevention awareness and foster supportive environments to connect with youth.
“Through early education, targeted prevention programs, and strong local partnerships, our team remains committed to providing important resources and support. These are vital in helping Alabama youth to make positive, informed choices,” said Beverly Johnson, Director of the Office of Child and Family Services.
The ADMH Office of Prevention helps to lead and facilitate evidence-based outreach across the state and promote the work of community providers during Red Ribbon Week. Key initiatives include the Student Ambassadors Program, which supports peer-to-peer leadership in schools, and targeted prevention efforts at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
ADMH invites schools, families, and organizations to participate in Red Ribbon Week by creating more connections and conversations about substance use prevention. Learn more about prevention efforts and Red Ribbon Week on ADMH Facebook and Instagram pages.
