For the Division of Mental Health and Substance Use Services (MHSU) Providers:

  • Scores of ≥90% will yield a 2-year certification period.
  • Scores of ≤89% will yield a 1-year certification period.
  • If a provider fails to meet substantial compliance requirements with minimum programmatic standards, a provisional certification status (up to 60 days), may be granted with additional follow-up requirements.

For the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) Providers:

The Alabama Department of Mental Health/Division of Developmental Disabilities (ADMH/DDD), in partnership with The Council on Quality and Leadership (CQL), implemented updated Certification tools and procedures on November 7, 2024.  This includes updating the certification tool scoring system.

  • The Certification Tool implements an 80% or above threshold for determining the provider’s “score” to achieve a 2-Year Certification.
  • The organization must meet or exceed 80% of all requirements, while still meeting all immediate 30-day Alignment Requirements, to attain a 2-Year Certification Term.
  • Providers who do not meet 80% of Requirements, will have plans for Alignment to bring at least 80% of requirements into alignment (Health and Safety-related items). During this phase, the provider will be classified as Provisional status.
  • New providers, completing the initial certification review, are only eligible to receive a (1-Year) Certification Term.  New providers must achieve 80% or above on the Certification Tool, without any Requirements needing actions that are considered an Immediate (30-Day) Plans for Alignment area.  Health and Safety-related items may result in Revocation of the TOA.

An ADMH contract provider is considered in “good standing” as long as they participate in the certification process, which involves developing and completing the required plans, along with providing adequate evidence of their corrective action requirements.

In summary, as a result of this updated Certification scoring system, scores for ADMH/DDD settings prior to November 7, 2024, will reflect a range of scores up to maximum score of 100.  Scores after November 7, 2024, will reflect a score of 80 or Provisional Status.
