I’ve had a really hard time for most of my life because of my schizophrenia. It made things so difficult that I struggled with drug addiction, and that led to me being homeless and not having a job. I even spent time incarcerated, which was a very low point for me.
But I worked hard to change my life. I overcame the chemical abuse and found my independence again. Now, I am proud to be in recovery and living a better life.
I am a self-taught artist because I never went to school for it. I always say that “if my mind can see it, then I can paint it.” I really enjoy painting because it is very therapeutic for me and helps me feel calm. Creating art makes me happy and gives me something good to focus on every day. It’s a big part of how I stay well and show people what is inside my head.
