Montgomery, Ala. – Opioid addiction is an epidemic in the nation and in Alabama. The crisis affects us all. It’s going to take all our courage — together — to do something about opioid misuse, addiction, and overdose.  The Courage for All initiative, a partnership of the Alabama Department of Mental Health and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, focuses on awareness and treatment of opioid addiction.
Montgomery, Ala. – Every year, mental health organizations and individuals in the U.S. and around the world raise awareness of suicide prevention during September, National Suicide Prevention Month.  All month, mental health advocates, prevention organizations, survivors, allies, and community members unite to promote suicide prevention awareness.  We can all help prevent suicide.

Montgomery, Ala. – Approximately two million times each year, people who have serious mental illnesses are admitted to jails across the nation. Almost three-quarters of these adults have drug and alcohol use problems.  The Stepping Up Initiative is a national program with the goal to reduce the number of individuals in jails with mental illness.

Montgomery, Ala. – Recovery Month is an annual celebration sponsored each September. This year’s theme is “Join the Voices for Recovery Month: Invest in Health, Home, Purpose, and Community.”

Montgomery, Ala. – Every day in the United States, over 100 people die from a drug overdose.  Medicine needed by one person can become poison when taken by another.  Drugs you get from a doctor should always be taken as directed.  They should never be shared.  What’s prescribed for you is for you — your symptoms, your weight, and your family history. If you take pills that don’t have your name on the label, you’re taking a serious risk.

Montgomery, Ala. – The Alabama Department of Mental Health, community partners and the Montgomery Biscuits are hosting Strike Out Stigma Night to offer frank information and resources on mental illness and substance. Join us August 24 for the 6:35 p.m. game!

Montgomery, Ala. – National Prevention Week , May 13 – 19, is an annual health observance dedicated to increasing public awareness of, and action around, substance abuse and mental health issues. The National Prevention Week theme for 2018 is “Action Today. Healthier Tomorrow”. This theme reminds us that simple, daily acts of prevention, like helping a friend make positive choices or supporting a family member in need, can lead to healthier lives for each of us today, and stronger, happier communities tomorrow.
